What Are Your Go-To Feelings
What are your “go-To” feelings EXERCISE
Feelings fall into one of three categories:
Positive - affectionate, warm, loving, happy, excited
Negative - anger, frustration, disgusted, annoyed
Vulnerable - sadness, shame, fear, insecurity, jealousy/envy
Most of us have access to a predominant feeling. Take a moment, reflecting on these categories and think about, which feeling is it for you?
If it’s hard for you to discern, ask a trusted friend or loved one how they would answer that question. This is a risky ask, so only do it if you feel you can hear the answer.
Notice your go-to feeling also helps you to identify what your growth edges are for developing greater emotional capacity. If anger is easy for you, perhaps you need to do some work to develop your ability to notice, feel, and express positive warm feelings? Or vulnerable ones?
All you have to do right now is notice there are some feelings that you have easier access to than others. You don’t have to make any judgments or conclusions about this. Right now you just need to notice.
