Noticing the Harsh Critic EXERCISE
The first steps to being able to change a behavior, even if it’s how you speak to yourself, is to notice it.
This week, I want to invite you to notice the ways you speak to yourself, outwardly in conversation and in your own head, that are harsh. And ask yourself, would I speak to a good friend this way?
You don’t have to do anything different yet, just notice all the ways you do this. Make a note of how you feel when you do this.
Keeping a journal of them for a week can be an eye opening exercise. Create a note in your phone, or a page in your journal and any time you notice yourself speaking harshly to yourself, jot it down. As well as write down one or two words about how you feel in that moment.
